Commemorating, honoring, and building upon the work of William Tyndale, this 500th anniversary bound edition of the Nestle Aland 28 Greek New Testament is bound for just such use in our modern world. The NA28 has been chosen because it is not only the scholarly standard for Greek New Testaments, but it is printed and bound in Germany, just like the Tyndale 1526 New Testament. The thought behind the simple design is to make it as much like the 1526 Tyndale New Testament as possible without compromising usability. A plain calfskin binding in natural colors, un-gilded pages, earthy colored beetroot red stitching, and a single burgundy ribbon marker. This book would have needed to look plain and ordinary to blend in, but little did the authorities know the treasure that was contained. In this edition by Sofield Leather Company, there is a single mark on the spine, the Chi Rho to symbolize the ancient material that Tyndale brought to life for every plow boy in England. This volume should be cherished, but it is made to be used.

This binding is durable to cross land and sea for the sake of the Gospel of Christ. Throw it in your book bag for class, a briefcase for the office, or take it on a hike. With a premier leather that looks more beautiful through use, you will carry with you a reminder of Tyndale’s blood being shed in martyrdom to bring God’s Word to the English-speaking peoples.

The Novum Testamentum Graece (NA28) is the worldwide standard among the Greek editions of the New Testament.

About this edition:
Made for those who want to read the New Testament in Greek but need some help with vocabulary, this edition includes a handy Greek-English dictionary, which was compiled by Barclay M. Newman and covers all Greek vocabulary found in the New Testament.

About the NA28:
ΝΑ28 boasts a revised text-critical apparatus that has been both expanded and simplified and includes readings from the recently discovered Papyri 117–127 for the first time, opening up interesting perspectives particularly for the Acts of the Apostles.

The Catholic Epistles in this edition have been made consistent with the Editio Critica Maior, resulting in more than 30 modifications in the main text and a completely revised text-critical apparatus that includes a new selection of witnesses and variants. The cross-references in the margin were also systematically reviewed and revised, and references to early Jewish literature were added.

About the editor:
The Institute for New Testament Text Research is a university institute in Münster that researches the history of the transmission of the New Testament in its original Greek language. In addition to the Novum Testamentum Graece (“Nestle-Aland”), the German Bible Society also publishes the Greek New Testament and the Editio Critica Maior.

This year, Anno Domini 2026, marks the 500th anniversary of the book that changed the English-speaking world forever. William Tyndale, a Catholic priest turned Protestant Bible translator from the University of Oxford, put his life on the line by publishing the first New Testament translated in English from the original Greek. This New Testament was unlike anything that had ever been published before. Tyndale’s story is well known. For years, he worked tirelessly in dark rooms beside candlelight on the run from authorities to translate the New Testament. By God’s grace, it shook the English continent, and it was never the same.

It is more well-known that Tyndale did work in Belgium, and was eventually caught and martyred after being turned in by a spy sent by the King of England. But Tyndale was in Belgium for the publication of the 1534 New Testament. Tyndale first went to Germany to learn Hebrew and translate his New Testament.

Tyndale had the desire to translate the whole Bible, and one important skill that he needed to do that was learning Hebrew. Staying in England was not only dangerous for Tyndale, but it was also not a great place to learn Hebrew. At the time, some of the best Hebraists were in Germany. Martin Luther himself was a Hebrew and Old Testament professor at the University of Wittenberg. In summary, there were two very good reasons to go to Germany. There would be protections for those doing the work of Reformation, specifically those translating the Bible into their mother tongue (Luther had already done this in German), and Tyndale would be able to learn Hebrew from the best Hebraist in the world at that time.

The original 1526 edition was printed in Worms, Germany, by the printer Peter Schoffer the Younger, whose father was an apprentice of Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. Currently, there is only one copy of the 1526 New Testament in existence, and it is located in the British Museum in London. It is well known that these New Testaments were used so much that they would often not be left intact. When the book would fall apart, they would continue to use the scraps of paper to read God’s Word. The dimensions of the original are 6 x 4 x 1. This small binding was necessary for the owner to be able to conceal it easily from authorities, but they also needed to be compact enough to cross land and sea, hidden in bales of hay to be smuggled into England.
